Modified Bitumen

Modified bitumen is an incredibly sturdy yet flexible asphalt membrane mixed with polymerized rubber or plastic and fiberglass reinforcement. It evolved from built-up roofing systems, which have been employed on low-slope roofs for over a century. The above photo shows the 9,000 square foot roof at 785 Market Street in San Francisco.

The roof was pressure washed and cleaned and all non-bonded coatings removed. Cracks, seams and other penetrations were sealed, then Modified Bitumen roofing was installed. A silver aluminum reflective topcoat was added to prevent wearing and deterioration from the sun.

ARC is an expert Modified Bitumen contractor serving San Francisco, Marin county, and the greater Bay Area.
